He then founded and later sold an online food business aimed at creating a more sustainable local food system. Scott is currently Vice President & Senior Counsel at American Express, where he supports the company’s innovative mobile and digital payment strategies.
Scott’s acclaimed book, The Power of Citizenship: Why JFK Matters to a New Generation, examines President Kennedy’s emphasis on public service and how his legacy can be used to increase civic engagement today. He lectures nationally and is an adjunct lecturer on the American presidency at the University of Pennsylvania.
Scott is CEO and co-founder of Believe in a Cure. He has made it his life mission to develop a novel treatment for Eli and other kids who suffer from FOXG1, working tirelessly, seven days per week, to manage the foundation’s numerous science projects and lead fundraising efforts to enable the science to progress. The foundation has developed cell lines, animal models, and novel drug candidates, attempting to do in five years what normally takes pharmaceutical companies ten to twenty years to achieve. The clock is ticking for Eli, and so the short-term goal of the foundation is to identify a drug that will increase the FOXG1 protein in which Eli and others are deficient. Longer-term, the foundation’s goal is to develop a novel gene therapy that will provide a more permanent medical solution for afflicted patients.
Scott is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he was president of his class.
